Crazy Lawsuit Wednesdays!

Greetings from Hoth! The heat in my office has now been out for two days, and as a trademark Toronto SNOPOCALYPSE ™ kicks up around us things are looking decidedly grim for the rebellion.

Since my poor frozen brain is too sluggish for deep insight here’s some decidedly hot and spicy odd lawsuits from this week:

• Taco Bell Chihuahua, awarded $42 million dollars by Taco Bell (Dear National Post, after your lead in to this article in today’s paper, I was very upset to find out that the award actually went to the mascot’s creators rather than the dog herself. Shame. Shame).
• Michael Jackson being sued by John Landis over a potential broadway musical based on the iconic music video “Thriller”.
• Stan Lee Media Inc. shareholders continue to sue Marvel. I actually enjoy this ongoing battle because even in the very, very, low-water mark of the dot-com crazy-days, 7th Portal (the main product of SLMI) was awful. Like… “Stan Lee doing the worst imitation of Rob Liefeld possible” awful. That’s bad.
• Opportunistic Toronto firm starts a class-action lawsuit for students affected by the (now over 75 day) York University / CUPE 3903 strike. Even as someone who was personally affected by no fewer than THREE labour disputes during my time at York… this one is particularly epic. So sue! SUE!
• Another class action lawsuit - this time against US eatery Applebee’s for messing up calorie counts on their “Weight Watchers” menu…

… you know what? This is just getting depressing… so we stop here. You don’t like it? SUE ME.
